Introducing the Sobriety Hub Resident App: Recovery Tools in Your Residents' Hands
We're excited to announce the launch of the Sobriety Hub Resident App—a free companion app for iOS and Android that gives your residents direct access to their recovery journey, right from their phones.
For years, Sobriety Hub has helped operators manage their programs with purpose-built software. Now, we're extending that same thoughtful approach to the people at the heart of your program: your residents.
Why We Built This
Recovery housing works best when residents feel connected, accountable, and empowered. But too often, they're left waiting on staff for basic information—their balance, their forms, their progress. That creates friction for everyone.
The Resident App removes that friction. Residents get instant access to the information they need, when they need it. Staff spend less time answering routine questions and more time on what matters: supporting recovery.
A Recovery Dashboard That Motivates
When residents open the app, they immediately see what matters most:
- Days Sober — A live count calculated from their sober date
- Days in Program — How long they've been part of your organization
- Meetings This Week — A rolling count of logged meeting attendance
This isn't just data—it's daily motivation. A quick glance reminds residents how far they've come without having to ask anyone.
Self-Service Event Logging
Accountability is central to recovery. With the Resident App, residents can log their own activities directly:
| Event Type | What Residents Record |
|---|---|
| Chores | What chore they completed |
| Meetings | Which meeting they attended |
| Check-ins | Mark themselves present at the house |
| Mood | Daily mood rating (1-10 scale) |
| General | Any other activity with notes |
Everything syncs automatically to Sobriety Hub. Staff see it in real-time on the resident's activity timeline—no manual entry, no chasing people down, no gaps in the record.
Secure In-App Messaging
Communication shouldn't require exchanging personal phone numbers. The Resident App includes a full messaging system:
Direct Messages — One-on-one conversations between residents in the same house. Private, with delivery and read receipts.
House Group Chat — Every house gets a shared group chat. All residents are automatically included. Perfect for announcements, coordination, or just building community.
Staff Communication — Staff with house access can message residents directly from the web app. Residents reply from the same inbox. True two-way communication.
The messaging experience feels modern: real-time delivery, typing indicators, photo and document sharing (up to 5MB), and unread message badges so nothing gets missed.
Payments Made Simple
If you use Sobriety Hub's payment features, residents get full visibility into their financial responsibilities:
- Balance Overview — Current balance, overdue amounts, credits, and pending payments all in one place
- Invoice History — Every past and current invoice with clear status and due dates
- Pay Directly — Tap any open invoice to pay immediately through a secure payment page
No more "what do I owe?" conversations. Residents can check their balance anytime and pay on their own schedule.
Easy Access to Forms
Forms you share with residents appear directly in the app:
- Shared Forms — Forms you've specifically assigned to a resident
- General Forms — Organization-wide forms marked as "mobile visible" for things like weekly check-ins or surveys
A badge on the Forms tab shows how many forms are waiting. Residents tap to complete—simple as that.
Built for Real-World Use
We've sweated the details that make an app actually useful:
- Face ID / Touch ID — Quick, secure access without typing passwords
- Badge Notifications — Open invoices and available forms are always visible at a glance
- Pull-to-Refresh — Latest data whenever residents need it
- Offline Support — Messages queue when offline and send automatically when connection returns
Privacy and Security by Design
The app is built on the same HIPAA-compliant infrastructure as Sobriety Hub:
- All data encrypted in transit
- Residents only see their own information
- Session management through industry-standard authentication
- No access to other residents' data or anything outside their house
Seamless Connection to Sobriety Hub
The app reads from and writes to the same data you already manage:
| App Feature | Sobriety Hub Connection |
|---|---|
| Days Sober | Reads from resident's Sober Date field |
| Days in Program | Reads from resident's Move-In Date |
| Events | Creates records visible in resident activity |
| Messages | Uses same messaging system as web app |
| Payments | Connects to same Stripe account and invoices |
| Forms | Accesses forms you create and share |
| Profile | Shows data from resident record |
There's nothing new to set up. If a resident's email or phone matches their record in Sobriety Hub, they're automatically connected to their house, messages, forms, and payments.
What Residents Can (and Can't) Do
Residents can:
- View their own information
- Log events (chores, meetings, check-ins, mood)
- Send and receive messages
- View and pay invoices
- Complete forms
Residents cannot:
- Edit their profile (that's still managed by staff)
- Access other residents' data
- See anything outside their house or organization
You stay in control. Residents get convenience.
