# No residents? How Angel’s House of Healing used a “Divine Reset” to Survive a Dip

 By  [Carlo Poquiz](https://www.sobrietyhub.com/our-blog/author/carlo-poquiz)  ·   2 minute read

When Amber started Angel's House of Healing (based out of La Crosse, Wisconsin), it came from a deeply personal place. Growing up in a small town in Minnesota where alcohol was tied to every single moment—from birthdays to hard days—she saw firsthand what addiction can do, losing her mom to it at just 22 years old. After fighting her own battles and choosing a completely new path nearly seven years ago, Amber knew she had to put her energy into something that mattered. When the time was right, she jumped straight in to give women a safe place not just to get sober, but to figure out their self-worth and build an actual life.

**Discovering Sobriety Hub from Day One** When launching her recovery home, Amber knew she needed a reliable system to handle the administrative side without adding friction to her daily routine. Based on trusted industry recommendations, she chose to use Sobriety Hub exclusively from day one.

**The Challenge: Navigating Growing Pains and the Dip to One Resident** Opening a recovery home from scratch comes with steep operational hurdles. Operating entirely as a single staff member, Amber quickly learned that good intentions alone aren't enough—running a safe, structured environment requires strict operational boundaries.

During its initial infancy phase, the house experienced the classic growing pains of trying to find the right residents.

*After starting with 2 residents for the first couple of months and moving up to four or six, the house hit a challenging dip down to just 1 resident earlier this year. Rather than seeing it as a setback, Amber looked at that moment as a necessary clearing period—a divine reset that allowed her to clear the house and intentionally rebuild the culture she envisioned.*

**The Solution: Streamlining Intake, Culture, and MAT on Sobriety Hub** To prevent those alignment issues moving forward, Amber leveraged Sobriety Hub's application and waitlist management tools to tighten her screening process. Her main application form—linked directly to her website—features a robust set of specific questions that allow her to assess and gauge applicants before ever jumping on a phone call.

The application covers several critical areas:

- **History:** Detailed background questions regarding the applicant's past.
- **Motivation & Readiness:** Specific inquiries tracking their readiness to change and do the inner work.
- **Health & Wellness:** Assessing their health needs, including an inclusive, straightforward approach to Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) where residents responsibly manage their own dosing without friction.
- **Financial Info:** Gathering necessary financial details.
- **House Rules Agreement:** Setting proper expectations right from the start by having applicants agree to established guidelines.

By utilizing these detailed form criteria and waitlist management directly on Sobriety Hub, Amber can thoroughly vet candidates in advance. This ensures she brings in women who are genuinely committed, building a strong culture of sisterhood and support. As she notes: "I am very happy with the process and Sobriety Hub... It's really helpful."

"The work that we do matters," Amber shares. "Being in the industry that I am, it is extremely challenging, but it's also very rewarding. It takes all of us working together to truly make the change in the world that we want to see."

**The Numbers and What's Next** By tightening her intake criteria and keeping her operations steady, Amber achieved meaningful metrics in her first year:

- **Capacity Scaling:** Bounced back from a low of 1 resident to fill the house completely to its current full capacity of **8 active residents**.
- **Inquiry Volume:** Receives an average of about **6 referrals/inquiries per month** from county channels and online applications, with spikes reaching up to 6 applications in a single week.
- **Total Annual Impact:** Helped approximately **23 women total** through their doors in their first operational year.
- **Lean Operations & Growth:** Maintained a successful single-staff operational model while laying the groundwork to expand into **2 additional recovery homes**.
